LUIGI PICARDI, Guitarist and Music Historian
Born in Rome in 1970, he began studying guitar at the age of 15 and graduated with honors from the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in Rome under the guidance of Maestro Carlo Carfagna. He subsequently participated in numerous seminars and master classes in Italy and Spain, studying with internationally renowned masters such as Roberto Masala, Armando Marrosu, José Tomás, Bruno Battisti D’Amario, David Tanenbaum, David Russell, Lamberto Cardellini, and Carlos Bonell he also took courses in early and Baroque music taught by Rosario Cicero and Mario D’Agosto.
He has also won awards in various national and international competitions.
He has performed as a soloist and in chamber ensembles (guitar duo flute and guitar duo violin and guitar duo with Paolo Perrone Cluster Ensemble directed by Marco Angius) for numerous Italian musical associations.
He has also actively collaborated with the Istituto Bibliografico Musicale, directed by the renowned musicologist Giancarlo Rostirolla, at the National Central Library in Rome.
Since 1999, he has been a member of the staff of Vatican Radio’s Music Programs, where he curates the late‐night program “Con voi nella Notte” and hosts the Sunday program “L’Arpeggio.” He also serves as Music Assistant at the Sala Assunta of the Vatican Radio station, as well as for various events held at the Holy See.
At the same time, he works as a sound engineer and musical assistant in collaboration with Rino D’Anna’s Green Studio in Rome, with whom he recorded the CD “Le Quattro Stagioni” by Antonio Vivaldi, featuring Grazia Raimondi as solo violinist and the “Musici Aurei” ensemble conducted by Luigi Piovano. The album was released by the French label Eloquentia, received enthusiastic reviews from the international press, and earned the highest rating from critic David Vernier in “Classics Today.”
In 2019, he founded the ConTemporary Duo with guitarist Felicia Toscano, performing in concert in Washington, D.C., in the U.S., and at international guitar festivals.
