Liechtenstein Palace (Malostranské náměstí)
Prague, Czech Republic
The Liechtenstein Palace was built as the first large Baroque building in Prague in the 16th century by Karel of Liechtenstein, whose descendants own the Principality of Liechtenstein in Central Europe.
Karel of Liechtenstein was also named the „Bloody Lichtenstein“ for sentencing and executing 27 leaders of Estates in an uprising in 1621. The leaders were sentenced in the Liechtenstein Palace an act which was commemorated by 27 cast‐iron heads on stone pillars located in front of the palace.
Throughout the centuries the palace served as military headquarters many times. Today, the Liechtenstein Palace is used by the music faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts and houses a concert hall with a new organ, an exhibition hall, a summer garden, lecture‐rooms, a recording studio, a library, a club, and much more.
