About the Event

The Orchestre Pasdeloup performs the Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz along the organ concerto by Elżbieta Sikora in the prestigious Philharmonie de Paris.

Following the Organ Concerto No. 2 by a Polish composer with a rich catalogue of works, we hear the quintessential example of Romantic orchestral music: the *Symphonie fantastique*, whose flamboyant imagination continues to impress.

Comprising some sixty works, including operas, symphonic works and chamber music, Elżbieta Sikora’s catalogue features both electroacoustic pieces and instrumental works. ‘I listen, I search tirelessly,’ explains the composer, who describes her music as ‘lyrical expressionism’ and who, in 2022, composed her Second Organ Concerto. The centrepiece of this concert, the Symphonie fantastique continues to stand out as one of the most evocative and dazzling examples of programme music – the torments of an artist with autobiographical undertones. ‘A Ball’, ‘March to the Scaffold’, ‘Dream of a Sabbath Night’: these are all showpieces in which Berlioz’s visionary imagination comes to the fore with great force.
