Théotime Langlois de Swarte & Justin Taylor: Salle Cortot
Paris, Salle Cortot — Main Hall
About the Event
The two François—Rebel and Francœur—made brilliant contributions to the development of the art of the sonata in France, following in the footsteps of the great Arcangelo Corelli, whose 12 *Sonate per violino*, Op. 5, exerted an immense influence throughout Europe for several decades, including on geniuses of the stature of Bach and Rameau. Celebrated virtuosos of their instrument for their technical perfection and the beauty of their tones, Rebel and Francœur composed works tailored to their exceptional abilities. Above all—a unique feat in history—these “Siamese twins of music” wrote breathtaking pieces together, even co‐authoring operas!
Theotime Langlois de Swarte and Justin Taylor—themselves musical brothers, in every way worthy of the illustrious masters they interpret—set out to pay tribute to these remarkable figures in a captivating program.
