After his staggeringly successful A Swan Lake, Alexander Ekman offers his vision of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This ballet, which is full of powerful images and emotions and features a score by Mikael Karlson, explores the energy and mysteries of the summer solstice in the Scandinavian tradition, The Joffrey Ballet was founded in Chicago in the 1950s by its namesake Robert Joffrey. He built a reputation around numerous premieres by American choreographers (Alvin Ailey, William Forsythe, Mark Morris, Twyla Sharp, etc.), a trend which has continued to develop with successive generations including Alexander Ekman, who is one of the most inventive exponents today.
