Seong‐Jin Cho: Théâtre des Champs‐Elysées
Paris, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées — Main Hall
About the Event
South Korean pianist Seong‐Jin Cho is an infrequent performer in France, but has a gift for blending restraint with poetry.
According to Classica “His songlike manner, loose technique, phenomenal virtuosity, and fragrant and refined piano playing revive the soul of Chopin of old”. But before spinning Frederick Chopin’s salon off into a waltz, Seong‐Jing Cho takes us to Italy with Liszt and to the landscapes of the “Pastoral” Sonata by Beethoven. He also takes a detour via Hungary and Romania where Bartók assembled stylized folklore in the suite Out of Doors (1926). It will not have escaped the attention of this former student of Michel Béroff that the fourth of the five pieces toys with an impressionistic style that is sometimes quite close to the approach favoured by the likes of Ravel and Debussy.
