About the Event

A little‐known version of the tragic history of the lovers of Verona by Daniel Steibelt, to (re)discover with relish.

Daniel Steibelt (1765‐1823) was a composer, teacher, piano virtuoso and keen traveller, who criss‐crossed Europe after fleeing a career as a soldier. He had already written many pieces for the piano when he penned his first opera, Roméo et Juliette, which was successful at its premiere and beyond, and was still being performed thirty years after its debut. The brass‐heavy orchestration has a modern quality which was picked up on by Berlioz. A sleeping beauty awakened by the teams of the Palazzetto Bru Zane.
