About the Event

The “Purcell miracle” lies in his brilliant ability to assimilate the European styles of his time and fuse them into a unique musical expression, enlivening the whole with an unstoppable melodic instinct. Above all, no other composer has been able to celebrate the folk roots of his musical heritage with such brilliance. Unsurprisingly, many of his compositions rank among the “hits” of the Baroque era.

One could not dream of more inspired performers than Reginald Mobley and Les Musiciens de Saint‐Julien, led by the charismatic flutist François Lazarevitch. The American countertenor’s sumptuous vocals are complemented by the ensemble’s flamboyant timbres and rhythmic vitality.

HENRY PURCELL
Minuet, Hornpipe & Borée, Scotch Tune, Strike The Viol, Here the Deities Approve, Fairest Isle, What Power Art Thou (Air du froid), One Charming Night, Chaconne…
