The Orchestre de chambre de Paris celebrates contemporary women composers through the figure of Korean composer Ehwa Hong.
More than two hundred and fifty years after its composition, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds remains shrouded in mystery. The parts were lost on their way to the copyist, and the composer set out to rewrite them. However, there is no trace of this manuscript, and the origins of the score that “reappeared”’ at the end of the 19th century are not clear. The soloists of the Orchestre de chambre de Paris perform this version featuring a flute, which has been reconstructed by Levin. Stravinsky also adopted the concertante form for one of his early works, the Danses concertantes, completed on the North American continent. All sections of the orchestra are invited to join the dance, vying with one another in playful solos with distinct sonic identities. From Mozart to Stravinsky, a new work by Ehwa Hong, commissioned by the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, explores cultural mirroring: otherness, influence, complementarity and reflexivity across continents
