Symphonie n° 1 “Titan“
Thomas Enhco is the soloist in the Piano Concerto by the renowned jazz musician who passed away in 2018, before the ‘Titan’ resounds – a masterstroke that lays the cornerstones of Mahler’s musical language.
Premiered in 2000 by Frank Braley and the Lille National Orchestra, the violinist‐composer’s Piano Concerto stands as his second symphonic work, conceived, in his own words, ‘like an improvisation’. In contrast to this spontaneous genesis, Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, now universally acclaimed, was the result of nearly four years’ labour, disrupted by the demands of his career as a conductor. Sketched in 1885, work on the composition was put on hold due to his travels to Prague and then Leipzig. It was in the latter city that he was finally able to complete the score in the spring of 1888, describing this final burst of creativity as a musical torrent pouring out of him.
