Nuria Rial & Artemandoline: Salle Cortot
Paris, Salle Cortot — Main Hall
About the Event
So‐called “classical” music has always drawn inspiration from the melodies, dances, and even the sounds of folk traditions. This was particularly true during the Baroque era, when the great voyages between the Old and New Worlds added an extra dimension of rhythms and shimmering colors (Ribayaz is a magnificent example of this). The mandolin was the very embodiment of this cultural fusion, Neapolitan in its most widespread form, traveling between Naples and Spain. While Italy gradually asserted its musical supremacy—particularly in vocal music—across the entire continent, the Iberian Peninsula retained its distinctive sound: Andrea Falconieri and Domenico Scarlatti superbly illustrate this phenomenon.
The brilliant Artemandoline ensemble, led on the mandolin by Juan Carlos Muñoz and Mari Fe Pavón and featuring the radiant Nuria Rial—a true icon of Spanish song—invites us on a fascinating musical journey along the shores of the Mediterranean.
