Nocturnal Correspondences: Paris Opera Ballet
Paris, Palais Garnier
About the Event
Literature, music, women and love triangles: all these themes feature in the work of Cathy Marston, who has already explored such figures as Clara Schumann and Jacqueline Dupré. For her Paris Opera debut, the British choreographer brings together her favourite themes in a new creation dedicated to George Sand.
To music composed by Philip Feeney, she explores the passion between the writer and Frédéric Chopin, the mother‐daughter relationship and the artistic creative process.
In a subtle interplay of correspondences, her creation echoes Thierry Malandain’s Nocturnes (2014), a piece for 22 dancers making its debut in the Paris Opera’s repertoire.
Thierry Malandain combines the moods and fragility characteristic of Romanticism with the Danses macabres of the Middle Ages to evoke, in this ballet of poignant melancholy, the passage of time and our finitude.
