Mozart's Mass in C: Théâtre des Champs‐Elysées
Paris, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées — Main Hall
About the Event
A tour de force of polyphony showcasing Mozart at the peak of his powers as a composer of sacred music.
For Mozart, religious repertoire was never just a set exercice for a particular event, or a necessary rite of passage, but a genre in its own right to which he regularly returned throughout his life. In his already promising early masses, the musician demonstrated his mastery of instrumental and vocal polyphony. His Mass in C, and the major choruses in particular, are informed and influenced by Bach and Handel.
