In a poverty‐stricken Scotland torn apart by years of clan rivalries, Lucie must marry a lord who will save her family name from dishonor. But she is secretly in love with Edgard, the last survivor of a rival clan…

What can a woman do when force and violence reign supreme?

The most widely read author in Europe in the 19th century, Walter Scott drew inspiration from a true story for his darkest novel. At the height of his career, Donizetti wrote a wonderful theatrical adaptation. After its triumph in Naples, Lucia di Lammermoor took the continent by storm – Emma Bovary and Anna Karenina would bear witness to this. We are staging the French version that Donizetti supervised for Paris, then the opera capital of the continent.

Speranza Scappucci conducts this summit of romantic lyricism. After her anthological performances as Lakmé and Ophelia, Sabine Devieilhe returns to the Opéra‐Comique for a new role in which she is the ideal performer. Director Evgeny Titov lays bare the cruel mechanisms of this merciless drama.

French adaptation in four acts of the opera Lucia di Lammermoor | Translation by Alphonse Royer and Gustave Vaëz of the original libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, based on the novel The Bride of Lammermoor by Sir Walter Scott | Premiered on August 6, 1839, at the Théâtre de la Renaissance in Paris.
