As children, they played for the queen of the Netherlands. As young adults, they signed with the Deutsche Grammophon label. Now in their thirties, they are very much in demand in the world’s most prestigious venues. The Jussen brothers’ close rapport will once again delight Avenue Montaigne. The young Dutch musicians are back with music ranging from the piety of Bach, among others, arranged by Kurtág, to swing tunes by Gershwin, and pieces featuring ideas that Haydn bequeathed to Brahms, Paganini and the young Lutosławski, for an evening that promises to be colourful and varied in equal measure. Although Dolly by Fauré is no longer much performed, the rousing energy of Van, a toccata by Polish composer Hanna Kulenty, will prove that tonal music is not dead.
