About the Event

Christina Pluhar and her ensemble L’Arpeggiata invite us to dive into the heart of Naples in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Popular Neapolitan music of the 17th and 18th centuries, which has too long been overlooked in favour of its older more erudite and learned siblings (Monteverdi, Scarlatti, Corelli, Vivaldi, etc.), is a treasure trove of inventions and emotions, which are just starting to come to light again. Naples was also the cradle of the commedia dell’arte which influenced numerous pieces from popular operas or working‐class songs and became a stage where life in all its cruelty and tragedy was played out. Christina Pluhar and her ensemble L’Arpeggiata have made bringing this repertoire back to life their speciality and indeed their passion.
