About the Event

The heroes of the Baroque opera stage were not tenors! The “stars” of that era were to be found among the castrati—beloved singers who dominated European stages by portraying heroes, lovers, and even female roles. Their voices, of incomparable beauty and expressiveness, lent the performances a very special magic. The fluidity of gender roles was a true hallmark of Baroque opera: complex plots, misunderstandings, and role‐playing centered on gender ensured that these works were huge hits with audiences—then as now.

Fortunately, castrati no longer exist, but their art lives on thanks to the exceptional voices of our time. Through their technical virtuosity, expressive intensity, and the fascinating richness of their timbre, Valer Sabadus, Arnaud Gluck, and Alois Mühlbacher bring this unique tradition back to life, carried by the legendary beauty of L’Arpeggiata’s sound.

A captivating journey into the heart of the opulent world of opera.
