L’Arpeggiata & Christina Pluhar: Salle Gaveau
Paris, Salle Gaveau — Main Hall
About the Event
A route taken by the desperate from east to west, the “Balkan Route” crosses the scene of bloody wars that took place barely 20 years ago and tells a never‐ending story of human suffering… More recently, the term “Balkan Route” has become a harrowing way to describe the misery in refugee camps, as during the first ten months of 2015, approximately 700,000 people traveled along it to reach Central Europe. But this “Balkan Route” does not actually exist: the name has become a collective term for several routes between the Middle East and Europe that, sooner or later, pass through the entire region known as the Balkans.
Christina Pluhar and her ensemble use music to tell the story of the evolution of a culture as rich as it is diverse, whose roots stretch from Turkey to the Greek islands, from Bulgaria through Macedonia, Serbia, and Bosnia all the way to the formerly Venetian region of Dalmatia. They invite us to immerse ourselves in the sonic adventure of the Balkans and discover another history that bears witness to cultural ties and inspiring musical encounters.
