La Griselda: Théâtre des Champs‐Elysées
Paris, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées — Main Hall
About the Event
All the brio of Vivaldi’s score and the inventiveness of Goldoni’s libretto combined.
First performed in 1735 at Venice’s most prestigious theatre, La Griselda was Vivaldi’s most successful opera. In this mature work, with a libretto revised by the young and already highly talented Goldoni, Vivaldi scored a hit with mezzo‐soprano Anna Giro, the most renowned performer of her day, and conclusively won over the Venetian elite. Some twenty years ago, Jean‐Christophe Spinosi resurrected this work with a team that would go on to define the “Vivaldi revival” (including Sonia Prina, Marie‐Nicole Lemieux, and Philippe Jaroussky). The generation of singers performing with Julien Chauvin tonight will doubtless bring a fresh sparkle to Vivaldi’s gem.
