Joséphine & Le Sacre du Printemps: Théâtre des Champs‐Elysées
About the Event
Joséphine Baker revisited by Germaine Acogny and Pina Bausch’s The Rite of Spring performed by African dancers.
A new season, new management at the Théâtre, and new trends for the future are already being rolled out: cherish the memory of the past and embrace the bold trends of today. What better example of an iconic figure in the history of the Théâtre and in the story of the modern era than Joséphine Baker, whose first appearance on this Parisian stage one hundred years ago and death fifty years ago are being celebrated in 2025. Reconnecting with the past is also, and always, about performing The Rite of Spring. Initiating a dialogue being the figure of Joséphine and Pina Bausch, one of the most innovative personalities in European dance, was an obvious choice.
