Jean‐Marc Luisada: Piano at the Salle Gaveau
Paris, Salle Gaveau — Main Hall
About the Event
Jean‐Marc Luisada invites us to explore the worlds of three great masters of piano literature. In fact, each of the pieces included in this program is a world unto itself. Admittedly, Beethoven remains true to himself throughout his entire body of work, but Sonata No. 12, with its theatricality and emotional depth (particularly the third movement, “Funeral March on the Death of a Hero”), undeniably stands apart from the late and audacious Bagatelles, Op. 126 (a misleading title, as these pieces are anything but trivial). Similarly, what could be more different than Chopin’s Nocturnes, Op. 9, and his Scherzos with their almost demonic power? As for Debussy, each of his *Images* from the First Book (*Reflections in the Water*, *Homage to Rameau*, *Movement*) sketches a brilliant microcosm of prodigious richness.
Only a master of Jean‐Marc Luisada’s stature, with his incomparable artistry in pianistic bel canto and his legendary poetic sensibility, can simultaneously unify these worlds while preserving their distinctiveness. An evening of great piano music.
