About the Event

A land of encounters and cultural fusion, South America brings together a multitude of languages, histories, and cultures that give it exceptional diversity. Its musical traditions are one of the most fascinating expressions of this diversity. When the Spanish arrived in the Americas at the end of the 15th century, the European Baroque heritage encountered local musical practices. Rhythms, dances, and sun‐drenched colors inspired European composers, while the continent’s musicians embraced and transformed these influences from afar. Over the centuries, these exchanges continued, and South America kept asserting a rich and vibrant musical identity. In Argentina, the tango in particular triumphed in the 20th century and spread as far as Europe.

At the helm of La Chimera, Eduardo Egüez celebrates the richness of these repertoires. At his side, Eva Zaïcik brings their myriad colors to life with her velvety voice.
