Ensemble Cantoría & Jorge Losana: Salle Cortot
Paris, Salle Cortot — Main Hall
About the Event
Throughout the 17th century and well into the following century, the distinction between the secular and the sacred in Spanish music became so blurred that criticism arose within the Catholic Church itself over the pomp and splendour of certain ceremonies. The Christmas period, in particular, was a time for concerts that attracted large crowds eager for musical entertainment. Inspired by composers such as Cererols, Romero, Murcia and San Juan, villancicos for vocals and jácaras for instruments flourished, filling churches with contagious joy.
Undoubtedly one of the most dynamic Baroque ensembles of recent years, the Spanish ensemble Cantoría, conducted by Jorge Losana, takes us back to this radiant music with flawless virtuosity and irresistible energy. Cantoría will undoubtedly be a revelation for many.
