About the Event

The Baroque era was a golden age: making music with friends enlivened the daily lives of people from all walks of life, and there was little hesitation in playing transcriptions of popular “hits” (composers themselves led the way, providing transpositions of their scores for various instrumental combinations). The theorbo emerged as the ideal vehicle for this creativity, revered throughout society. Instrumental craftsmanship was evolving, however, and—spurred on by masters such as Bach and Vivaldi—the young cello gradually gained ground against the venerable viola da gamba, though it did not entirely replace it Marin Marais brought the viola da gamba to its zenith in the early decades of the 18th century.

Thomas Dunford, Bruno Philippe, and Keyvan Chemirani are undoubtedly friends through music. They open the doors not only to times past but also to the present, demonstrating that their thirst for diverse music remains as strong as ever today—as evidenced, for example, by their highly personal interpretations of Leonard Cohen and Barbara, not to mention their own compositions.

Work by MARAIS, BACH, FORQUERAY, VIVALDI, BARBARA, COHEN and original compositions
