Arsen Petrosyan Quartet: Salle Cortot
Paris, Salle Cortot — Main Hall
About the Event
Far from being limited to the admittedly brilliant example of Komitas, traditional Armenian classical music, both secular and sacred, can boast a history stretching back more than a thousand years, as Arsen Petrosyan demonstrates. This master of the duduk, the heavenly Armenian oboe inscribed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list in 2008, takes us on a journey through time and geography. With his quartet composed of instruments from his country such as the quanum (plucked strings), the santur (hammered strings) and the dhol (percussion), he draws on the works of Grigor Narekatsi (a 10th‐century monk), Simeon Yerevasni (an 18th‐century Armenian ashugh, or bard‐poet), and Sayat‐Nova (another illustrious ashugh from the same century). These four virtuosos will also transport us with traditional songs, dances and lullabies in a moving evocation of Armenia.
