Gershwin Theatre
New York, USA
The Gershwin Theater is Broadway’s largest theater, seating nearly two thousand people. Housing the American Theater Hall of Fame in its spacious lobby, the theater has hosted the Tony Awards on several occasions. Rechristened in honor of one of the most successful writing duos in musical theater history, the Gershwin’s modernist Art Nouveau structure sits on the historical site of the Capitol Theater.
Now primarily home to large‐scale musical productions, including ‘Wicked’ since 2003, the Gershwin has also hosted rock royalty – Queen was the first rock band to play Broadway here in the 1970s — and a host of starry names from other genres. Sammy Davis Jr, Shirley MacLaine, Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, Barry Manilow, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie have all found a Broadway home at the Gershwin.
