Moscow, the capital city of the Russian Federation, has a tremendous musical tradition. Works by composers including Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev had their premieres here. The long tradition of classical music in Moscow continues with such institutions as the Bolshoi Theater, one of the oldest ballet and opera companies in the world. New halls and ensembles have been developed since the fall of the Iron Curtain, and the Moscow Conservatory, where Tchaikovsky himself taught in the 19th century, trains some of the most renowned performers of our time.
