Orchestra: Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali

Formed in the aftermath of World War Two, with a mandate to perform contemporary works, and above all the music of composers suppressed and censored by the fascist regime, i Pomeriggi Musicali has become an integral part of musical life in Milan and, more broadly, Lombardy. An active history of commissioning new works has seen many 20th Century greats, including such luminaries as Berio, Dallapiccola and Clementi, write for, and in many cases, conduct the orchestra. Today, the orchestra maintains this commitment to premiering new works, alongside a broad repertoire of great works from earlier periods. Welcoming a star‐studded roster of guest conductors that includes many legendary names, the orchestra also plays a key role in the Lombardian opera season, playing for numerous houses, and is a regular guest of international concert halls and festivals.
