About the Event

With a dance step, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian leads the audience on a journey of discovery through some of the most precious pages dedicated to ballet. He does so by bringing ‘his’ interpretation of this repertoire to the stage of the Milan Auditorium for the first time, presenting a suite he himself created from the ballet Gayane by his illustrious compatriot Aram Khachaturian. Together with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, the Music Director creates an itinerary focused on ballet: alongside the Armenian composer we find Stravinsky with The Firebird, a perfect expression of his ‘Russian’ compositional phase, and Manuel de Falla with The Three‐Cornered Hat, both ballets written for the brilliant Diaghilev, deus ex machina of the Ballets Russes.

Program

  • Aram Il'ič Kačaturjan – Danza delle Sciabole e altre danze da
  • Zoltán Kodály – Concerto for Orchestra
  • Manuel de Falla – El Sombrero de Tres Picos, Suite No. 2
  • Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky – L'Oiseau de Feu, suite d'orchestre (version 1919)

Artists

Orchestra: Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi

Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements.
