About the Event

Rimsky‐Korsakov's enchanting Scheherazade, with the initial chords played by Luca Santaniello, concertmaster of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, transports us to exotic realms to explore, through our senses and emotions, the tale of a woman who captivated a sultan with her stories from One Thousand and One Nights. In this program, the versatile talent of pianist and conductor Sunwook Kim brings this masterpiece alongside a pinnacle of the piano repertoire: Beethoven's Fourth Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, where, for the first time in history, the piano interrupts the initial silence, preceding the traditional orchestral introduction.

Program

Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements.
