About the Event
Bringing together Webern, Berio, and Dvořák, this program explores three distinctive approaches to orchestral expression, spanning the late Romantic tradition and some of the most influential musical voices of the twentieth century.
The evening opens with Anton Webern’s *Passacaglia*, Op. 1, a remarkable early work that combines the richness of late Romantic orchestral writing with the concentrated musical language that would later define the composer’s style. Its dramatic intensity and carefully crafted structure already reveal a highly individual artistic voice.
Luciano Berio’s *Folk Songs* follows, a celebrated cycle that reimagines traditional melodies from different cultures through inventive and colorful orchestral settings. Combining folk‐inspired material with Berio’s distinctive musical language, the work creates a compelling dialogue between tradition and modernity.
The program concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s *Symphony No. 7 in D minor*, Op. 70, one of the composer’s most powerful and dramatic achievements. Balancing emotional depth, lyrical beauty, and symphonic rigor, the work stands among the great masterpieces of the nineteenth‐century repertoire.
Conducted by Elena Schwartz, the concert highlights a remarkable diversity of musical expression, revealing how composers across different eras have shaped and expanded the possibilities of the orchestra.
