Auditorium di Milano: Wagner / Bruch / Mendelssohn / Tjeknavorian
Milan, Auditorium di Milano Fondazione Cariplo — main
About the Event
From Wagner’s dramatic theatrical vision to Mendelssohn’s musical portrait of Italy, this program brings together three distinctive voices of the German Romantic tradition in a journey rich in color, lyricism, and orchestral vitality.
The evening opens with Wagner’s *Tannhäuser Overture*, a work of sweeping contrasts that introduces the spiritual and dramatic conflicts at the heart of the opera. Max Bruch’s *Double Concerto for Clarinet, Viola and Orchestra in E minor* follows, combining expressive warmth, lyrical beauty, and a refined dialogue between the two solo instruments.
The concert concludes with Felix Mendelssohn’s *Symphony No. 4 in A major*, the celebrated *Italian Symphony*. Inspired by the composer’s travels through Italy, the work captures a sense of light, movement, and youthful energy through some of Mendelssohn’s most brilliant orchestral writing.
Conducted by Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, the program highlights the diversity of nineteenth‐century musical expression, from operatic drama and intimate lyricism to the radiant spirit of one of the repertoire’s most beloved symphonies.
