Milan, Auditorium di Milano Fondazione Cariplo — main
About the Event
Pairing one of Beethoven’s most beloved symphonies with a new work receiving its Italian premiere, this program brings together musical heritage and contemporary creation in a compelling orchestral journey.
Ludwig van Beethoven’s *Symphony No. 6 in F major*, Op. 68, the celebrated *“Pastoral” Symphony*, evokes the beauty and serenity of the natural world through some of the composer’s most vivid and evocative orchestral writing. From flowing streams and birdsong to village festivities and summer storms, the work remains one of the most compelling musical portrayals of nature ever composed.
Alongside Beethoven’s masterpiece, the concert presents the Italian premiere of Francesca Verunelli’s *Concerto for Cello and Orchestra* (2026). Co‐commissioned by SWR Südwestrundfunk Stuttgart and Milano Musica – Association for Contemporary Music, the work offers audiences the opportunity to experience a significant new contribution to the contemporary repertoire.
Conducted by Sylvain Cambreling, the program places Beethoven’s poetic vision in conversation with Verunelli’s distinctive musical language, highlighting the continuing vitality and evolution of the orchestral tradition.
