About the Event

Bringing together contemporary Italian music and some of the most beloved works of the Russian repertoire, this program explores the many expressive possibilities of the orchestra, from introspective soundscapes to dazzling virtuosity and dramatic storytelling.

Fabio Vacchi’s *Voci di notte* opens the evening with its distinctive and evocative orchestral language, offering a compelling introduction to one of Italy’s most significant contemporary composers. The focus then shifts to Sergei Rachmaninoff’s *Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini*, a work celebrated for its brilliance, imagination, and remarkable interplay between soloist and orchestra.

The second half is devoted to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Selections from *The Nutcracker* showcase the composer’s gift for melody, color, and theatrical charm, while *Romeo and Juliet*, his celebrated fantasy‐overture after Shakespeare, brings the evening to a powerful conclusion with its unforgettable blend of passion, conflict, and lyricism.

Conducted by Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, the program presents four distinctive musical voices united by their richness of expression and vividly atmospheric orchestral writing.

Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements.
