For an unforgettable evening of orchestral music in Milan, make your way to the Auditorium di Milano Fondazione Cariplo for four vibrant chapters of the Russian and Armenian musical traditions. The program opens with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9 in E‐flat major, op. 70, a work renowned for its wit, elegance, and unexpected lightness. The spotlight then turns to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B‐flat minor, op. 23, one of the most beloved showpieces in the repertoire, combining grand melodies with virtuosic brilliance. Aram Khachaturian’s evocative Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia, followed by the Variation of Aegina and Bacchanalia from Spartacus, adds sweeping theatricality and unforgettable rhythmic energy.

| Orchestra: | Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements. |
