About the Event
Spanning more than a century of musical history, this program brings together the elegance of the Classical tradition, the refinement of the Viennese waltz, the expressive world of early modernism, and the dazzling orchestral imagination of Maurice Ravel.
The evening begins with works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, including concert arias and excerpts from *Zaide*, revealing the composer’s extraordinary gift for dramatic characterization, lyrical beauty, and vocal virtuosity. Johann Strauss II’s celebrated waltz *Wein, Weib und Gesang!* follows, capturing the charm, energy, and sophistication of nineteenth‐century Vienna.
Alban Berg’s *Sieben frühe Lieder* introduces a more intimate and atmospheric sound world, combining richly expressive melodies with subtle and colorful orchestral writing. The program concludes with Ravel’s *La valse*, a brilliant choreographic poem that transforms the Viennese waltz into a work of increasing intensity, culminating in one of the most striking orchestral finales of the twentieth century.
Conducted by Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, the concert explores a remarkable range of musical styles and expressive worlds, united by their elegance, imagination, and enduring appeal.
