About the Event
Bringing together French refinement, Italian lyricism, and the brilliant orchestral imagination of Richard Strauss, this program offers a rich and varied exploration of musical character, color, and storytelling.
The evening opens with Nino Rota’s *Divertimento Concertante* for double bass and orchestra, a work that combines virtuosity, wit, and melodic invention in the unmistakable style of one of Italy’s most beloved composers. Gabriel Fauré’s *Pelléas et Mélisande Suite* follows, revealing a world of subtle atmospheres, delicate orchestral colors, and quiet poetic beauty.
The second half is devoted to Richard Strauss, beginning with *Don Juan*, a dazzling tone poem whose sweeping energy and lyrical intensity established the composer as a major force in late Romantic music. The program concludes with *Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks*, a brilliant orchestral portrait of the legendary trickster, full of humor, imagination, and remarkable instrumental virtuosity.
Conducted by Clelia Cafiero, the concert highlights four distinctive musical voices, tracing a path from elegance and lyricism to some of the most vivid and inventive orchestral writing of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
