About the Event

'There is a reason why certain pieces of music are so famous: it's because they are beautiful,' asserts Music Director Emmanuel Tjeknavorian. This truth resonates perfectly with Mozart's Symphony No. 40, a masterpiece from the Salzburg genius's final three symphonies, distinguished by its melancholic and lunar nature compared to the other two. Meanwhile, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano pursues its exploration of Shostakovich's symphonic works with Symphony No. 6, a brighter composition that embodies the moods of spring, joy, and youth.

Program

  • Dmitrij Šostakovič – Sinfonia n. 6 in Si minore op. 54
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550

Artists

Conductor: Claus Peter Flor
Orchestra: Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi

Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements.
