About the Event
In this program, the National Dance Company brings together three moments in dance from the last century: George Balanchine’s Serenade, Jacopo Godani’s Echoes from the Restless Soul, and William Forsythe’s The Second Detail. Serenade, danced to Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, also holds foundational significance for the company, as it was the first Balanchine work added to its repertoire in 1983. This is complemented by Godani’s creation set to Ravel’s piano triptych Gaspard de la nuit, a succession of pas de deux, quartets, and a highly virtuosic ensemble movement. The program culminates with Forsythe’s The Second Detail, whose playful and extremely physical choreography plays with tempo, group dynamics, and unconventional off‐axis movement.
