Madrid’s Teatro Real draws travelers into Federico García Lorca’s stark, poetic world with Bodas de Sangre, a compelling interpretation of one of Spain’s most enduring dramas.
This fresh interpretation of Federico García Lorca’s text transforms Bodas de Sangre into a major musical event. Created by Manuel Busto, the new opera is based on one of Spanish theatre’s most famous tragedies. Barbara Lluch directs the new work, with the composer providing musical direction.
The drama’s central themes are life and death. Treated mysteriously and ancestrally, myths, legends and landscapes lead audiences into dark passions of jealousy and persecution, ending tragically in death. Love remains the only force capable of overcoming it.
