| Soloist, Conductor, Piano: | Rudolf Buchbinder With a career spanning more than six decades, the Austrian concert pianist is a living legend of classical music, acclaimed especially for his interpretations of Beethoven's works for piano, with which he is most closely associated. Buchbinder is responsible for commissioning the 'New Diabelli Variations' to recognise the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, bringing together eleven of today's most prominent composers to create their own reading of the master's immortal waltz theme. Treasured above all by his hometown of Vienna, Buchbinder is an honoree of each of the city's major (instrumental) musical institutions and the first recipient of the Dresdner Staatskapelle's Golden Badge of Honour. Rudolf Buchbinder has also served as Artistic Director of the celebrated Grafenegg Festival since its founding in 2007. |
