Sunday Concerts at Conway Hall: Duo Concertante & Heather Tuach
London, Conway Hall — Main Hall
About the Event
For twenty‐four years through live performances and acclaimed recordings, Canadian violinist Nancy Dahn and pianist Timothy Steeves have built an international career as Duo Concertante. Their name comes from the inscription over Beethoven’s “Kreutzer” Sonata, “in stilo molto concertante,” which implies the two performers are equal, dynamic voices. Cellist Heather Tuach will be known to Conway Hall concert‐goers as a member of the Greenwich Trio. We are pleased to welcome this ensemble of Canadian musicians in a programme of Beethoven, Dvořák and the UK premiere of London‐based composer Marcus Barcham Stevens’ first piano trio.
Pre‐Concert Recital with Calliope Duo
Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama’s Calliope Duo present a programme to celebrate the centenary of Hungarian composer György Kurtág. Kurtág’s “Játékok”, characterised by stark harmonies, minimalist textures, long silences and witty and playful gestures make for a fascinating contrast with the rich contrapuntal writing of Bach, faithfully translated for piano duet by Kurtág. The programme concludes with Schubert’s fiery and dramatic “Lebensstürme”, firmly in the late classical style and showcasing his mastery of melodic writing and breathtaking colour.
