RPO x Anthony Gabriele: The Moonwalkers: Live in Concert
London, Royal Albert Hall — Main Hall
About the Event
Narrated by Tom Hanks
Join the RPO for an evening where you’ll be immersed in the depths of space in high‐definition.
The symphonic work “Deep Field” by Grammy®-winning American composer Eric Whitacre was inspired by the world’s most famous space observatory, the Hubble Space Telescope, and its greatest discovery—the legendary “Deep Field” image.
After intermission, the RPO will present Anne Nikitin’s film score for Lightroom’s critically acclaimed film “The Moonwalkers.” Narrated and co‐written by Tom Hanks, “The Moonwalkers” offers a glimpse into the upcoming return of crewed missions to the Moon by taking a behind‐the‐scenes look at the Artemis program, including interviews between Hanks and Artemis astronauts. On a big screen at the Royal Albert Hall, this will be the first opportunity to hear Anne Nikitin’s original soundtrack, performed live by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Accompanying the evening’s music, two specially produced films will be shown on our big screen. This concert offers the audience their first opportunity to experience “The Moonwalkers” outside of its original Lightroom context—in a specially curated version featuring original NASA footage, Andy Saunders’ “Apollo Remastered” images, and a pre‐recorded narration by Tom Hanks that transports you to the surface of the moon. The evening will open with Eric Whitacre’s music combined with “Deep Field: The Impossible Magnitude of Our Universe,” which blends breathtaking images from the Hubble Telescope with custom‐made animations.
