RPO: Brahms 1
London, Cadogan Hall — Main Hall
About the Event
Brahms’ First Symphony begins with the beating of a tormented heart and ends with a triumphant hymn. Debussy’s “Prélude à l’après‐midi d’un faune” is quite different—a gentle, sensual flute opens the door to a dream world full of evocative sounds. Two boundless fantasies two unforgettable musical journeys, brought to life in an exciting way by our inspiring guest conductor Ariane Matiakh, who makes her debut with the RPO tonight. But in between, the most wonderful adventure of all awaits us when cellist Zlatomir Fung, a former Artist‐in‐Residence with the RPO, presents the world premiere of a magical new work by the innovative British composer Laurence Osborn. We haven’t heard it yet—no one has! But Laurence has drawn inspiration from the world after dark, with all its secrets and wonders. Be there when it comes to life.
