Vienna Boys Choir: Christmas Concert
Leipzig, Nikolaikirche Leipzig
About the Event
In their Christmas concert, the Vienna Boys' Choir presents classical works alongside Advent and Christmas carols from Germany and around the world.
The Vienna Boys' Choir is an institution in music history and looks back on a tradition spanning over 500 years. From the very beginning, they have served as musical ambassadors: as early as the 15th century, the first choirboys accompanied Emperor Maximilian I to Imperial Diets.
Today, the Vienna Boys’ Choir performs on Sundays with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Men’s Chorus of the Vienna State Opera in the Hofburg Chapel in Vienna. They are regularly featured in major orchestral concerts under conductors such as Joana Mallwitz, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, Franz Welser‐Möst, and Simone Young. Highlights include performances at the Salzburg Festival and the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert.
The Vienna Boys’ Choir is one of the few ensembles whose fame spans the globe. They regularly go on concert tours and delight audiences around the world with their perfect, crystal‐clear voices. The choir has received numerous prizes and awards time and again. For instance, it has won the coveted Grammy—the “Oscar of Music”—twice.
