Organ Hour at Gewandhaus
Leipzig, Gewandhaus zu Leipzig — Grosser Saal
About the Event
Enjoy masterpieces of organ music with outstanding musicians in the unique atmosphere of the famous Gewandhaus Leipzig.
Following its most recent redesign (2018), the Gewandhaus organ comprises 91 stops and 6,845 permanently installed pipes, playable on four manuals and a pedal keyboard. There is also a glockenspiel and two cymbal stars. In addition to the large Schuke organ, since 2018 the Gewandhaus has had a small portable hall organ built by the organ builder Kristian Wegscheider, which is mainly used for Baroque and early Classical repertoire.
The instrument, which can also be played in the Mendelssohn Hall, consists of a main organ and a chest organ, which can be played individually or together. Both parts of the organ together have 13 stops and 654 pipes.
