About the Event

Italy is synonymous with passion, beauty, and a distinctive musical way of life.
For centuries, the country has captivated and inspired composers and musicians from all over the world.
The DRESDNER RESIDENZ ORCHESTER invites you to a musical journey through Italy at St. Peter’s Church in Heidelberg—from Venetian elegance to southern temperament to the great melodies of Italian opera.
Barcarolles, sicilianos, virtuosic orchestral works, and well‐known opera melodies come together to create a diverse gala concert brimming with Italian flair.
The focus is not only on the composers’ origins but also on their special connection to Italy—music that originated in Italy, was inspired by Italy, or made its way from there out into the world.
From Italy out into the world—and from the world back to Italy.

The DRESDNER RESIDENZ ORCHESTER has been performing for many years in renowned churches and concert halls throughout Germany, delighting audiences with diverse programs featuring great classical masterpieces.
The ensemble is delighted to be performing at St. Peter’s Church in Heidelberg for the first time.

Heidelberg’s Peterskirche is the city’s oldest church and impresses with its neo‐Gothic interior, ornate stained‐glass windows, and a unique atmosphere.
Thanks to its excellent acoustics, it is regularly used for concerts and musical events.

Practical Information

The concert hall in the Wallpavillon is located on the upper level of the Dresden Zwinger Palace opposite the Glockenspiel Pavilion. One path leads up from the inner courtyard of the Zwinger via curved steps. The second path leads from Theaterplatz over a small rampart — located to the right of the restaurant & Café Alte Meister / Theaterplatz 1a and opposite the left side of the Semperoper Dresden — to the upper level. There are three sandstone steps to climb. On concert days, signs will guide you to us.
Due to the historical construction, the toilets and the concert hall are not barrier‐free but only accessible via steps.

Artists

Orchestra: Dresdner Residenz Orchester

A small ensemble of talented young players, the Dresdner Residenz Orchester has been delighting visitors to Dresden's famous Zwinger Palace since its formation in 2013. Founded by Prof. Igor Malinovsky, the ensemble is acclaimed for its agility and adaptability, creating magical interpretations of works written for much larger forces alongside classic works for chamber orchestra by Vivaldi, Mozart and Johann Strauss. The Dresdner Residenz Orchester also appears as a guest ensemble at prestigious venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie and the Munchener Residenz.

Dresdner Zwinger

The Dresdner Zwinger is a Baroque palace in Dresden, Germany. Designed by court architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann, the Zwinger was the perfect venue for an orangery, festival arena and exhibition gallery for the princely court. The location was originally part of the city's fortress, the wall of which is still perfectly preserved. The Zwinger is now a famous complex of museums that includes the Old Masters Gallery, the Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments, and the Dresden Porcelain Collection. The Dresdner Zwinger also hosts marvellous classical concerts, featuring international artists and conductors.
