Orchestra della Toscana – Markus Stenz & Benedetto Lupo
About the Event
Markus Stenz conducts the Orchestra della Toscana in an homage to Luigi Dallapiccola, featuring his 'Piccolo Concerto', Ravel’s 'Piano Concerto in G', and Haydn’s 'Military Symphony'. Half a century ago, on February 19th, composer Luigi Dallapiccola passed away in Florence. He was a pioneer of twelve‐tone music in Italy, with Florence being his home since 1922 when he started studying at the “Cherubini” Conservatory. The concert also includes Ravel’s 'Piano Concerto in G major', a neoclassical work with jazz and circus influences. The soloist for both concertos is Benedetto Lupo, an acclaimed Italian pianist.
Markus Stenz, former principal conductor of several orchestras, leads the tribute. Stenz, known for his dynamic interpretations, will also conduct Haydn’s Symphony No. 100, the 'Military Symphony'. Luigi Dallapiccola's Piccolo Concerto, composed during WWII, reflects the personal struggles of the composer during that period. The concert will be a powerful showcase of 20th‐century piano concertos, highlighting the talents of Benedetto Lupo and the brilliant orchestral performance under Markus Stenz’s baton.
