Orchestra della Toscana – Easter Concert: Min Gyu Song & Simon Zhu
Florence, Teatro Verdi — main
About the Event
Experience the brilliance of two masterpieces in a captivating Easter performance, embracing energy, inventiveness, and freshness. Guiding this concert is Min Gyu Song, a talented young conductor from South Korea. Known for his precise and fluid style, Song has rapidly gained prominence in Europe after his 2023 victory at the Malko competition in Copenhagen.
The evening begins with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, K 219, famously dubbed 'Türkish' for its finale echoing Ottoman bands. Written in 1775, this concerto stands out among Mozart's works for its theatricality, blending lyrical beauty with dazzling passages. Simon Zhu, a gifted German violinist of Chinese descent born in 2001, brings this piece to life. Winner of the 2023 Paganini Competition, Zhu is lauded for his maturity, precision, and commanding stage presence.
The concert concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op. 93—a symphony rich with rhythmic humor and playful allusions yet filled with dynamic energy. This performance is a perfect Easter send‐off, merging strict discipline with joyful expression.
