About the Event

Art was her life: Amalie von Sachsen achieved what was not a matter of course for women in the 19th century. In addition to plays and libretti, the Saxon princess wrote twelve full‐length operas. After her first compositions in the Italian style, Carl Maria von Weber and his romantic opera ultimately had a formative influence on her work. Weber, who supported Amalie as a teacher, counted “the hours spent with the amiable and highly talented lady among the most pleasant and intellectually stimulating of that time.” Following the rediscovery and performance of “La casa disabitata” (2012) and ‘Elvira’ (2022), the Dresdner Kapellsolisten, conducted by Helmut Branny, are now turning their attention to the two‐act opera “La fedeltà alla prova,” composed in 1826. With her unique ability to combine language and music into a special Gesamtkunstwerk, the Saxon princess's creative mastery is once again evident in this rediscovered work.
